ATSWA is a creator of eco-friendly environments, driving its target communities to build safe, better places to live – not only for today, but for future generations as well. The organisation has created lasting impressions by helping people observe and understand changes in environment, weather, farming patterns and the ripple effects in seasonal changes.
ATSWA is working on green projects that make communities look greener and more productive. Empty and barren lands are brought back into use for cultivation. Farmers are encouraged and supported to gain knowledge on, and practice, traditional and organic farming methods.
Trainings and awareness programmes help communities understand the importance of protecting their environment, conserving water, adopting rain water harvesting, reducing electricity consumption and using renewable sources of energy – all contributing to a reduction in global warming.
A total of 24,543 small farmers have been enrolled in the “Sigamani Annammal Farmer’s Empowerment Forum”, a farmers’ federation that strengthens their collective voice.
These farmers are also registered on the central government’s online portal “KISAN SABHA”, enabling them to avail benefits given by the central government, directly sell their produce throughout India, fix fair prices for their crops and reduce the indulgence of middlemen.
Trainings and awareness are extended to all community members who wish to practice traditional farming, helping them produce their own nutritious food and build a truly eco-friendly environment.
